Methane on Mars may indicate life on the red planet

The Mars rover recently took samples revealing that one billionth of the volume of air on Mars is methane. Since micro-bial life is a significant source of methane on Earth, this may indicate that there is life on Mars.

However, interaction between rocks and water can also create methane and from the sample scientists have no way of knowing if the methane source is biology or geology.
