Variety: Amy Winehouse Musical Enters Development for the West End

A stage project in early days

A stage musical built around Amy Winehouse is in development for London's West End, Variety reported in an exclusive on Thursday.

The outlet said Broadway producer Catherine Schreiber is understood to be involved, that casting is said to be underway, and that Mitch Winehouse, who oversees the estate, is also believed to be part of it.

Why the theater desks noticed

Jukebox musicals are a reliable West End business, and Winehouse's two albums gave her a catalog that audiences still know by heart.

What has not been settled

Variety said it is unclear whether the show will tell her life story or use her songs for an original plot. Reps for Schreiber and Mitch Winehouse did not respond, so dates and cast remain unannounced.
