A letter to the cabinet

Paris, 5 October 2026. Prime Minister Sebastien Lecornu has sent a list of suggestions to senior ministers aimed at ending the school standoff, RFI reported.

The letter calls for priority handling of long-term absences and unfilled teaching posts, the complaint that set off the Creteil protest on 17 September.

Repairs and arrests

The government also wants parliament to pass a bill making people who damage public property pay for repairs, rather than drawing the cost from taxpayers.

Authorities say at least 600 officers have been injured in skirmishes since 17 September, and police have arrested 5,000 people, most of them under 18. The ministry credited a drop in Monday disruptions to dialogue with students.
